Meet Stu, Our First Product

  • announcement

Quickhatch started with a thesis: software should feel more like an owned tool than a service you rent and can’t inspect. Reliable, understandable, built to last. Today we’re shipping the first product built on that idea. Stu is now available on the App Store, an iPhone app that helps homeowners understand what their house needs, stay ahead of recurring upkeep, and keep a lasting record of the work they’ve done.

Why home maintenance

Owning a home means being responsible for a dozen systems most people were never taught to care for. The default advice is to hire that responsibility out, and most home maintenance apps quietly agree, because they make their money routing you to a contractor whether the job calls for one or not.

We think plenty of homeowners are perfectly capable of changing a filter, flushing a water heater, or clearing a dryer vent. What they’re missing is a system that tells them what’s due, explains why it matters, and shows them how. So that’s what Stu is.

Every task comes with instructions and the reasoning behind it, so you finish knowing a little more about your own house than you did before. That’s the DIY, right-to-repair spirit we want in everything Quickhatch makes: tools that leave you more capable each time you use them.

Your home’s data stays yours

There’s a second principle underneath Stu that we intend to hold to across every product we build: your data belongs to you.

Stu runs on your iPhone and works fully offline, so your home profile, tasks, and history stay with you. When you want those records elsewhere, you can export your full maintenance history at any time, with nothing to unlock and no plan to upgrade. Most software treats personal data as an asset to collect and monetize. We’d rather earn our keep honestly and let you keep what’s yours.

What Stu does

The guiding idea is that home maintenance should feel calm, clear, and manageable. Everything above works without an internet connection and without any ads or contractor referrals pulling at your attention.

  • Generates a personalized maintenance plan from your home’s location and systems
  • Gives clear, step-by-step task instructions
  • Explains why each task matters
  • Tracks systems, components, costs, and completed records
  • Exports your full maintenance history on demand
  • Keeps your home data private and on-device

What this means for the studio

Quickhatch is an independent studio, and Stu is the first of many tools we want to build for managing the things you’re responsible for: your home now, and over time the other domains that quietly demand stewardship. Launching it turns our thesis from a paragraph on a homepage into something you can hold in your hand.

If you’re a homeowner tired of guessing what your house needs, we’d love for you to try it. Download on the App Store
